Development[]

Toriiko Asuka, the writer of the series, have always loved manga and his union in education. When Demogames wanted a new manga adaptation from the video games, Asuka accepted it. Asuka was thrilled to do the series in manga form because he has a interest in Crystal Jewels. When writing the series, Asuka always added elements that questions readers between fantasy and reality. “Just because they are in high school, they also rely on their maturity throughout the series.” During development of the characters, Asuka wanted to amaze the readers with their unique personalities and abilities. When designing new characters like Waira, Eliza, and Erika, Asuka made all of these three characters wonder if they exsist or not, or “I think I'm exsisting.” Asuka was glad to create the manga series and have continued to do so. Ayana Watasho was initially known as a pen name as Sayaka Midorizu. Watasho wanted to make the characters interesting by referring to the part of the title, chibis. Watasho did the Character Concept and she wanted to develop her own characters, so Asuka accepted that, and the manga series was made in 1993 BangBang Power magazine.

Crystal Jewels MiniZ has been licensed for English translation by three different companies: Manga Media[7], located in the United States, Ching Yi, located in Singapore, and BangBang Power Asia, also located in Singapore. In the United States's English Publications, Crystal Jewels MiniZ was published by three companies: MangaMedia (which has been discontinued), KidsLovesComics (which has been discontinued), and ComicPress.

Ching Yi have published 40 volumes of the series. When he was translating the 41st volume, he got a disease and have died. The publication was taken over by BangBangPower Asia for the remainder of the series.

In January 1999, Crystal Jewels MiniZ began to be published in MangaMedia. The manga was published in monthly issues, which is the first 5 chapters monthly/$2.25, until December 2002. The original translation were released left-to-right format, which it's first volume released in June 2000. The other volumes were translated and stopping at the 40th volume and leaving the untranslated volumes to ComicPress. ComicPress have published the remake of the series, in 2010 as "Crystal Jewels the Arc", with the right-to- artwork, and differs from the original version, with a different dialogue, but with the same titles, but some of the pages were "cut" short. In 2006, KidsLovesComics published the manga series and editing some scenes and dialogue to make it more "kidfriendly". The publication discontinued. MangaMedia then began to publish the hardcover version and named the series, "The Manga of Crystal Jewels" in 2002. The first five volumes were published in color.

In May 2006, MangaMedia starts publishing Crystal Jewels MiniZ Go! in English and on stores. There are several scenes that have been edites, like in Volume 1[8] Chapter 12, which Daigo yells out a curse word and changes it to "jerk!"; and which in Volume 12[9], Kaigona wore a black shirt and black pants, and her chest were bigger, which was edited to her white shirt and decreases her chest size. Crystal Jewels MiniZ is among those included on the app. So far, only Volumes 1-24 have been made available. These same volumes have also been released on the Kindle and Nook eBook stores as well. Crystal Jewels 20 features the adult version of the series, and some edits to the dialogue like profanity can be seen, and that includes suggestive dialogue and uncensored themes.
